Korea Dominates 2013 Super Bowl Ads
Out of the roughly 37 companiesspending a combined $300 millionon commercials this Super Bowl Sunday, one country outside of the U.S. stands out: Korea.
Korean firms and even Korean culture are going to be everywhere this Sunday night as the San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.
Samsung will have an ad for mobile devices featuring Hollywood stars Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd.
Kia will school us on where babies come from and show us a kick-ass female robot. She will probably be very sexy.
Hyundai will air three different ads, including a Sonata Turbo racing a butt-cracking motor cyclist and one set to a Quiet Riot metal head throwback from the early 80s, “Bang Your Head”.
And lastly, while it’s not an ad for a Korean product, Wonderful Pistachios landed Mister Gangnam Style himself, Korean rapper and worldwide YouTube sensation Psy, to sell the weird green nut.
Other foreign multinationals spending a few million on the Super Bowl include German automakers Audi and Mercedes Benz; Toyota (TM); Unilever (UN) and BlackBerry (RIMM) will try to convince you that the Z10 is cooler than Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone.

I am very proud to see Korean companies getting bigger. Super Bowl is one of the
biggest sports event in America. It is an American Football Tournament between
American Football Conference (AFC) champion (Baltimore Ravens-2013) and the
National Football Conference (NFC) champion (San Francisco 49ers-2013) to decide the
National Football League (NFC) champion for the 2012 season.
In my country (South Korea), American Football is not really famous and only few people know what
it is. This applied to me as well; it was not long ago since I started to learn how the game itself was
played. However, I definitely can notice how big it is in America.
Psy, the famous Korean pop star, brought sensation in America and his commercial was on Super
Bowl's ad. A lot of Korea's major companies such as Samsung, KIA, Hyundai, LG, etc. invested
enormous money for the advertisement. And this made Korean people to pay attention to Super Bowl.
Currently, Super Bowl is highly ranked and searched in most of Korea's Internet search-engines.
